The Real Must-Do List Before You Grow Old

By Mavic Huber

You probably stumbled upon articles centred on things people should do before they grow old or die (like going to Paris or trying bungee jumping). While there's generally nothing wrong with these lists or articles, they certainly lack something; these lists don't include the things people should really do like planning for retirement and death.

Dealing with the aforementioned matters may not be fun; needless to say, it must be done to avoid worries later on in life. So, unless you like difficulties to plague your later years, make sure you tick the following items off your must-do list, preferably before you reach your golden years.

Prepare for your retirement. Never equate retirement planning solely with saving. This is since, while preparing for retirement involves putting away money, it is not the be-all and end-all of this endeavour. To have the life you want after retirement, you need to set goals, implement strategies and most importantly, stick to your plan. Admittedly, retirement planning is not as easy as most people think it is. But don't worry for there are retirement specialists whom you can hire to help you have a happy and comfortable retirement life.

Write your will. You don't have to wait until you're 50 or 60 to do this. Given that death comes unexpectedly, it is best to prepare one as early as you can. Meanwhile, in drafting your will, do not commit the mistake of exclusively focusing on property distribution. Make sure your will also contains your wishes about the kind of intervention you would want to receive in certain medical situations.

Preplan your funeral with a funeral parlour in Singapore. This task may make you feel uncomfortable. Yet, just like the rest, it's something that should be done, especially since it can reduce the emotional (and financial) burden of your family. To accomplish this task, all you need to do is search for a Funeral home Singapore residents trust. Then, discuss various funeral details (like preferred method of body disposal, type of funeral service, etc.) with the director of your chosen funeral parlour Singapore. Once you settle all essential details, obtain a hard copy of the plan and give it to a trusted loved one.
